WCB Launch takes place in the Westcourt
This much talked about event, which has been put firmly high up on Drogheda’s Social Calendar - as a fun, entertaining, socially driven business event, since it’s emergence in 2010, has over 30 local business men & women taking part. There will be six weeks of intensive training prior to the main event, which is taking place on the 14th of October in the Westcourt Hotel, in conjunction with whitecollarboxing.ie and the Holy Family Boxing Club. |
President of the Chamber, Padraic Kierans opened the launch by praising all those taking part saying “I am very impressed with your courage, your ambition, your drive and enthusiasm. You are in essence what all of us in business strives to be – brave, focused and driven. To be successful in Business you must train, train and retrain, you must seek innovation and new ideas all the time. To that end Boxing is no different. You, the participants, will need to train, train and then train some more to be fit and ready to enter the ring.” |
Kierans continued, “The Drogheda & District Chamber has recently secured a 6 part TV series on RTE which will focus on the regeneration of Drogheda town. People like you are very much the essence of what the programme is all about, achievers – those who will give it a go, those who want success. I tip my hat to you all and hope that you will contribute further to this project in the months ahead, which will be called ‘Local Heroes – Drogheda Fights Back’. He invited everyone to attend the Public Meeting which is being held by Drogheda & District Chamber in conjunction with RTE on Wednesday 7th September @ 6.30 p.m. in the Barbican Centre saying, “people like you – contenders – can offer so much for Drogheda”. |
Cathal O’Grady from White Collar Boxing talked about the challenge ahead but also the amazing reward of taking part in an event like this saying “it’s not every day you get the chance to get such hands on training with professionals from the boxing world”. Damien McKenna from the Holy Family Club also spoke of the great opportunity that was being offered and was delighted to be a part of this experience for the second year running. Boxers from all parts of the local business community will commence training in September and by the end of the “sweat & tears” the contenders will be in fantastic shape. On the night itself they will be matched with opponents of similar size and weight. Cathal assured the crowd that the Westcourt Hotel will be fully kitted out to transform the venue into one amazing ‘Fight Night!’ |
This year the Chamber is supporting the ‘Drogheda Youth Development’ organisation, which is in the process of raising funds for the development of their new Integrated Information & Health Service, incorporating a Youth Café for young people in Drogheda. A Raffle will be held on the night in aid of the project and all proceeds from the sale of tickets for the raffle together with all the proceeds from sale of the programme will go to support Drogheda Youth Development.
