Local print provider Anglo Printers have reached a milestone in their history and are celebrating 25 years in business. The Digital and Litho printing company was founded in 1983 and is now the leading print supplier in the north east. The business is now owned by brothers Padraic and Peter Kierans who have a wealth of experience in the print industry, and are looking to secure another 25 years for the company through expansion and inward investment.
“It is hard to believe we have been here for so long, it feels like only yesterday when I started to sell print. At that time you would have a week or two to turn around a job, nowadays the market demands super quick turnaround and some times same day delivery!” remarks Sales Director Peter. “You are only as good as your last job to the customer, and we pride ourselves on meeting the deadlines that our customers require.”
Anglo Printers now offer a complete Digital Print Service in house, with the very latest technology available. “Products are produced directly from disc providing print-on-demand and achieving big cost savings” adds Managing Director Padraic. “Shorter Print runs are now cost effective. Digital Printing also provides unlimited opportunities for personalisation and variable data entry ‘on-the-fly’. We can provide our customers with the facility to completely bespoke their marketing piece or direct mailer for each individual client, with client’s name, details and whatever data they wish to include on the print item. Each item can be completely different from sheet to sheet. An example of this is personalised invitations to an event or launch, the client is made feel exclusive and valued.”
Padraic firmly believes that much of the future of the industry is in Digital . “It is our intention to expand into clearly defined markets such as Digital Personalisation. The Digital print market is completely different from the Litho print market, as it requires the printer to be the driver in creating the market. This is achieved by educating the client to the possibilities for them by using Digital Personalised Print as opposed to Mass Mailings. The success for the printer can only be achieved if he can make his client see how using the new processes can increase their bottom line. This is the key to this new fledgling market. US Data tells us that there is 22% return on personalised mailers whereas just .5% of people respond to mass mailings.”
All this can be achieved on Anglo’s two new high speed Digital Production Engines, one a Docucolour which produces stunning digital colour print, and the other a Docutech which can produce finished booklets and programmes in-line and ready for despatch. This machine is also capable of producing Books in small quantities at very reasonable prices. So for budding authors or writers working on historical or factual topics, thinking about producing a book presently, this could be a solution for you.
A recent installation in the Press Room has been a Heidelberg Speemaster 52 – 2 colour press, which has all the bells and whistles, such as Auto-Plate changing, auto roller and blanket wash up and indeed produces top quality print at speeds of up to 15,000 sheets per hour.

Not content with what has been achieved in the last 25 years, Management and Staff at Anglo Printers are keen to forge ahead in the print industry and are currently planning to build a massive extension to their premises in the coming months. “We intend to double our work space to almost 30,000 sq ft, and this work will be completed before the summer. We have run out of floorspace and are keen to bring in more machinery and expand our services, but cannot do so without this extension.” reveals Padraic. “We will have an outstanding cutting-edge facility, which will be designed to streamline the production process, and cement our position in the industry for another 25 years!”
